What is Sounts?

Sounts is the #1 social music platform for online music collaboration.

It's where music lovers from around the world connect and jam by recording short clips of themselves singing or playing an instrument. Others can build on that idea by adding their own performance, creating new versions of the original upload, or as we like to call it: a Sount.

This way, hundreds of musicians evolve a single idea in directions no one could have imagined.

All without the usual struggles:

  • no latency issues
  • no struggle finding matching musicians
  • no scheduling meetups
  • no file-sharing chaos via Discord or Google Drive
  • no pressure to perform live

Just pure fun and asynchronous jamming.

Who is Sounts for?

If you love music, you're in.

Whether you sing into your phone after uni, play guitar after work, experiment with new beats, or are just curious to discover or remix new sounds, Sounts is made for you.

If you're tired of making music alone, upload what you're currently playing. A cover, a riff, a melody, anything. Let others join in. One upload can spark a chain reaction of creativity.

But it's more than uploads. It's a community of music lovers who connect, collaborate, and grow together.

Check out this music collaboration to see it in action.

Getting Started With Sounts

Making music on Sounts couldn't be easier. To use all features like collaborating, editing your profile, or creating your own Sount, visit the website on a tablet or desktop.

If you just want to discover and listen, your phone works too.

Start by visiting sounts.com. The first thing you'll see is the Explore page, your entry point into the world of collaborative music.

The Explore Page Sounts explore page interface

The Explore page is the heart of Sounts. Everything created on the platform flows through here. It's where you find fresh ideas and discover other users to make music with.

When something catches your ear, tap the blue shuffle button Shuffle button to explore connected ideas and hear how others have added to the original. From there, you can like, save, comment, or most importantly contribute your own part.

Contribute to Other Ideas Sounts contribution interface

Found a Sount you like on the Explore page? If you're logged in, just click the small + button in the bottom-left corner to open the contribution screen.

Start by selecting your audio and video input. Make sure your browser has permission to access both. Otherwise, you won't be able to continue.

Both audio and video are required. But don't worry: if you're not comfortable showing your face, you can record your instrument or get creative with what you film.

What makes contributing on Sounts unique is the flexibility. It doesn't matter who started the collaboration. You can pick the parts you want to build on and remove the rest. The original clip doesn't even have to stay in the chain.

This freedom turns every idea into a branching network of remixes and creative variations.

Recording Your Sount

Once you've selected your audio and video, you're ready to record. Click the blue recording button to begin.

To change the default two-bar count-in, click the small arrow inside the recording button and adjust your settings.

Important: you currently need to record the full length of the Sount. If you stop early, the recording won't be saved. Just let it run. The system will stop the recording for you.

Not happy with the result? Press rerecord and try again.

Reviewing and Publishing

After recording your part, you can make final adjustments. The most important one is latency correction. Use your arrow keys or drag the audio line to sync your track perfectly with the others.

Next, adjust the volume mix between your track and the rest to keep everything balanced.

Once you're happy with your Sount, click Publish button and see how others react. Watch your idea evolve as new musicians join in.

Creating a New Sount Sounts creation button

To start a completely new Sount, click the plus icon in the sidebar just below the Explore button. This will take you to a recording screen that looks similar to the one used for contributions.

Before recording, make sure to set the core musical parameters for your Sount:

  • BPM (beats per minute)
  • Time signature
  • Number of bars
  • Key of the song

From there, the process is the same: set up your inputs, record, adjust, and publish.

Your Sounts Profile

Your profile is your personal space on Sounts. Here, you can view all your uploads and rewatch the Sounts you've saved.

You can also personalize your account by updating your display name, choosing a username, and adding a profile picture.

Follow us on social media to stay up to date and be part of the journey.

Why Sounts Matters

Millions of people around the world don't have access to social music making. Sometimes it's because they live in rural areas with limited infrastructure. Other times it's due to social anxiety or a lack of confidence to join in-person jam sessions.

Sounts creates a space for all of them to connect, create, and make music at their own pace.

Our mission is simple: Make social music making accessible to everyone.

Because we believe it's essential. Science says it's even better than kissing.

And we won't stop until we've made that a reality.

Join the Sounts family today. Upload your first idea, contribute to someone else's, and be part of the movement.
